Flyingflowers.com Flowers Review
Review of online flower delivery for Flyingflowers.com
This I think is a website catering to those who do not like to waste a lot of time. You shop by searching different categories of occasions to suit (eg. birthdays, thank you’s, anniversary, congratulations etc), type of bouquets you’d like to send (classic value or ultimate) or plants. That’s it; it’s that simple to use. The pictures are of acceptable quality and I really like their good description of types of flowers and number of stems in each collection. I would give marks 3/5 for this website.
In their Mother’s Day section there are 17 different options to choose from, 13 of which are floral gifts. Prices start at a very reasonable £9.97 for 10 standard mixed carnations delivered by 1st class post. For £20.99, there is a lovely 'Crimson Basket Pot Plant', filled with pink hyacinths, pink cyclamen, flaming Katy and palm, also delivered by 1st class post.
For the chocolate lover, they have just the perfect gift, their 'Chocolate Goody Box' at £17.99 filled with 6 hand-made truffles, 2 bars of luxury milk and dark chocolates, a bag of milk chocolate buttons and a bag of exotic dark chocolate coated coffee beans!
And to make your floral gift even more attractive, there are many add-on options (eg. wines from £10, chocolates from £10 or combination of chocolates and champagne from £29). A single, plain teddy bear costs only £5 but you could even personalise it further by opting for the embroidery service! Yes, your teddy bear could be wearing a jumper or fleece embroidered with your special message making this a unique gift! All this from only £9.99.
Normal delivery is next day via courier (included in price) although orders must be placed before 2pm during the weekdays.
The message option is good (limited to 10 words if you are typing your own) or select from an impressive list of suggestions (hard work made super easy!).
I ordered the ‘Raspberry Ultimate’ flower bouquet at £34 on 23 Jan 08. This was delivered on 24 Jan 08 at 12.15pm by a Home Delivery network van.
The bouquet was packaged in a stand-up box, no gift bow, just tied within a water-proof keep-moist plastic bag. It was made up of 6 blue eucalyptus, 4 pink roses, 4 dark pink spray roses, 3 green chrysanthemums, 2 white carnations, 2 pink carnations and 3 pink Asiatic lilies.
Some of the flowers appeared to be not very well conditioned. The stems of lilies still had some bottom leaves un-stripped, making it rather slimy. The little green chrysanthemums appeared rather tired looking, with brown bits in the bloom and some heads were damaged. At the end of the first day after putting the arrangement into a vase, one of the rose had already begun to wilt. 3 days on, 1 more rose and all the spray roses have gone the same way.
The message card was printed onto an A6 size fold-over card with a nice picture of a rose on the front.
My overall impression? It is an average bunch of flowers and certainly not the ‘ultimate’ as advertised. n.b. I was not successful the 1st time around to buy from this site due to difficulty in proceeding to checkout through its various stages.
